控制电缆属于电气设备用电缆。绝缘芯线颜色一般为黑白，电力电缆低压一般为分色。控制电缆的横截面一般小于10平方米。控制电缆用于传输控制信号，芯数较多。按标准是61核，但也可以按用户要求生产。
煤矿用控制电缆导体的长期允许工作温度为70℃，电缆敷设温度不应低于0℃。煤矿用控制电缆的允许弯曲半径:对于铠装或铜带屏蔽结构的电缆，不应小于电缆外径的12倍。对于有屏蔽层结构的软电缆，应不小于电缆外径的6倍。对于无铠装层的电缆，应不小于矿用电缆外径的6倍。
